Through the looking prism

Through the looking prism

An installation that holds sentimental value has been unveiled in Bangkok! If you're in Bangkok, please make sure to check it out!

This collaboration is with Professor Todo of Chulalongkorn University. The artwork, which remained unseen at another art festival, has now come to life in a different location. We're grateful to Professor Todo for finding the perfect place and opportunity to make it happen in Bangkok.

The piece consists of city windows made of prism glass, and the light spectrum of the scenery seen through these windows pixelates as it diffracts. It captures and breaks down the lights from passing boats on the Chao Phraya River and illuminated temples.

This window deconstructs familiar, beautiful, and random scenes, blurring and ambiguating them, shaking universality, and reconstructing them with individual interpretations, evoking thoughts about the future.

In the realm of night festival art installations, I always hoped to create a piece that uses only the surrounding light, without any additional lighting. It serves as both a celebration and a critique of sustainability, countering the excessive energy consumption associated with night festivals.

I hope this installation can tour various cities even after its initial showcase. Depending on the city, different interpretations can be made, and if it were presented in Singapore, it might also serve as an awareness campaign against light pollution.
